Philosophy

Based in Calgary, Alberta, REAL HR is led by Eleanor Culver, a career HR Professional with over 30 years’ experience in supporting the operational needs of companies in oil and gas, sports and entertainment, and oilfield services. We work with small- to medium sized businesses in a number of different industries, including oil and gas, retail, engineering and the training industry. We pride ourselves in delivering practical, results driven HR solutions and support.


REAL HR maintains strategic alliances with other HR experts in numerous areas, including benefits experts, and employment law specialists, to ensure all of your HR needs are dealt with effectively.


We pride ourselves in being involved in the communities in which we live and work. We currently donate our time to the Parkinson Society (nationally and provincially), Green Calgary, KidSport Alberta, and the Canadian Ski Patrol System (Lake Louise). We also donate a portion of our proceeds annually to the MS Society, The Cancer Society, Parkinson’s Canada, and the Heart and Stroke foundation. Our commitment to the community includes our commitment to you!

Eleanor Culver

In May 2009, Eleanor founded REAL HR, a company responsible for assisting small to midsized businesses with realising their business goals through the development of sound human resources processes, procedures and policies.


REAL HR provides specific project-based work, facilitation, and on-going advisory support relating to all aspects of human resources management including: staffing, employee relations, benefits, compensation, employee development, organisational development, government compliance, internal and external communication, performance management, human resources strategy, leadership development and board governance. REAL HR’s clients include companies in oil and gas, retail, health and the not-for-profit sector. Combining over 30 years’ Human Resources experience with her sense of humour and pragatic approach, Eleanor provides clients with practical HR solutions to their business challenges.


A life-long career HR Professional, Eleanor has a reputation for her pragmatic HR approach; one in which the HR Practitioner is a partner in the business and a provider of real solutions to operational issues. Prior to the founding of REAL HR, Ms. Culver was:


  • Vice-President, Human Resources & Administration, Century Oilfield Services: 2006-2009
  • HR Manager Canada Region, Halliburton Energy Services: 2004-2006
  • Director, HR, Calgary Flames Ltd.: 1997-2004
